Marco Scortichini graduated from the University of Florence, Italy, in Agricultural Sciences. Since 1985 he has done studies on plant pathogenic bacteria in research Institutes belonging to the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (Istituto Sperimentale per la Patologia Vegetale and Istituto Sperimentale per la Frutticoltura) now afferent to the Consiglio per la Ricerca e Sperimentazione in Agricoltura (C.R.A.).

He is involved in projects and studies concerning the characterization, population structure, epidemiology and control of phytopathogenic bacteria of temperate climates by using both classical and molecular techniques.

Since 2005 he is involved in teaching activity at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, Faculty of Biological Sciences, degree in “Molecular Microbiology and Microbiological techniques”. In this framework, he teaches “Microbiology of plant pathogenic bacteria” and “Identification of plant pathogenic bacteria”.

Part of his activity is devoted to the Committee on the Taxonomy of Plant Pathogenic Bacteria.
